A homeowner is using a hammer to identify hollow areas under his fiberglass pool steps.  These will be filled with Secure Set Spray Foam, saving him from having to dig out, backfill, and replace the steps.

SSF-LF-200: Heavy Duty Spray Foam. Lower density to fill larger voids and lifting slabs.

This kit will work for 90 to 95% of customer projects.

When your project calls for a high volume, flexible solution without compromising on performance, turn to the SSF-LF-200 kit. Ideal for areas with lesser weight load requirements, this kit is perfect for filling voids in fiberglass pool steps, lifting concrete sidewalks, concrete slabs, and filling larger voids in hard to reach areas.

Secure Set Spray Foam was used to fill the void under this concrete slab.  The 11,000 lb. truck drove on the slab 80-minutes after the foam injection and it remained perfectly level.

Note about Secure Set Extra Heavy Duty Spray Foam

GRA Services has not tested Secure Set Extra Heavy Duty Spray Foam for lifting structures, support walls, or footings.  Many customers have used the product for those projects and reported great success.

Avoid costly excavation and replacement of existing concrete slabs.

Both kits are designed to help you make repairs without the need for expensive tear-out and excavation of existing surfaces.  Simply drill 3/8″ holes to inject the spray foam and allow it to expand, filling the void and when needed, lifting the slab.

SSF-LF-120: Extra Heavy-Duty for Applications Requiring Greater Load Bearing Capacity

Unleash the powerhouse of DIY solutions with the SSF-LF-120 kit. Designed for applications demanding high strength and stability, this kit is your go-to solution for supporting foundations, commercial driveway, and warehouse slabs. Also used in new installation and for flat roof repairs or renovations.

Key Features

Density: 4 lbs.

Kit Size: 10 cubic feet

Compressive Strength: 70 psi

Which spray foam kit is right for you?

SSF-LF-200 Heavy Duty, Lower Density

  • This kit will work for 90 to 95% of customer projects.
  • Ideally suited for filling larger voids, for most lifting, and some spray insulation projects.
  • The kit provides 16.6 cubic feet of foam vs. 10 cubic feet in the higher-density kit.

SSF-LF-120 Extra Heavy-Duty, Higher Density Kit

  • Think of it like this.  If your driveway needs to support a concrete truck, or you need to support a heavy support wall or foundation, this is the right kit for you.

Which product has more lifting power?

When it comes to lifting, both products have the same lifting capability.  Both will lift concrete slabs, sidewalks and similar items. The difference between the products is their density and the amount of weight they support.

GRA Services has not tested Secure Set Extra Heavy Duty Spray Foam for lifting structures, support walls, or footings.  Many customers have used the product for those projects and reported great success.

How many nozzles to order?

The number of nozzles needed depends on the size of the project, but it is always better to have too many nozzles than too few.  Extra nozzles can be purchased in the online store. They must be ordered in a separate transaction from spray foam purchases.

Here are some things to consider:

  • The kit comes with 5 conical nozzles and 5 fan nozzles.
  • Any unused product is good for the remainder of the shelf life shown on the canisters, but the hose/gun kit will generally dry up after approximately 30-days, when stored as per instructions.
  • If you are lifting concrete, consider how many holes you will be drilling.  Order at least two nozzles per hole.  If product doesn’t flow through the nozzle for 15-30 seconds, the product will harden and you’ll need to change the nozzle.
  • If you are planning to use extension tubes to fill an extended void, you will want extra nozzles.

Should I order an extra hose / gun?

Keep in mind the foam hardens quickly when the components are mixed.  Drying in the mixing nozzle can happen in as little as 15 to 20 seconds because of heat and/or humidity.

If the nozzle dries on the gun, it cannot be removed.  If the nozzle clogs up too much, it can create back pressure of the foam into the gun, ruining the gun.

If you expect to have longer pauses between use, you will want to remove the nozzle, clean the hose gun and apply petroleum jelly to the orifices on the face of the gun.

If you don’t use all the product on the same day and you don’t expect to use the rest within 30-days, you might want to order a replacement hose and gun kit.

Hose and gun kits are available in the online store and must be purchased in a separate transaction from spray foam purchases.

Tips for Use and Clean Up

Clean up:
Always cover and protect work areas to avoid potential overspray, blow back spray, leakage, and foam that pops up in low pressure areas and cracks (or possible malfunction of a hose/gun or fittings).

Remove any foam before allowing it to cure, since it will be much harder or impossible to remove once cured.  Cut away as much foam as possible with a sharp knife, saw, or razor blade before trying to remove the stained areas.

Acetone:  can be used to remove uncured foam from tools and some surfaces.  DO NOT USE acetone on the spray foam applicator/gun, since it can create moisture inside the openings of the gun and can also warp/melt the o-ring on the gun.  Just wipe away any foam residue on the face of the gun and apply petroleum jelly for storage.  Before using cleaners or solvents on any other surface, check first to make sure the surface will not be damaged or discolored.

Paint thinner:  to soften and slightly dissolve uncured foam from spray foam mixing nozzles and mixing rods.  Soak mixers in a container of paint thinner for approximately 10 minutes, then remove the black static mixer from inside the nozzle with a needle nose pliers, and scrub the mixer with a brush to completely remove the softened foam.  Always be careful not the break the fragile black mixer.

The drill style mixer (in the liquid mix/pour kits) with uncured foam on it can be soaked in paint thinner or acetone and spun off, then dried before reusing.  If it has hardened foam then chip it away with a sharp knife.

Brake cleaner: can be used to remove 2-part foam stains from porous concrete surfaces, but doesn’t necessarily work on a polished concrete surface.  First, cut away as much foam as possible with a sharp knife or saw*, or razor blade, before trying to remove the stained areas.  Then spray brake cleaner intermittently while using a rotary wire brush on a drill for best results.  This process doesn’t necessarily work with just the red side product, if you encounter a leak or while emptying the tanks.

*Note:  Anytime the foam has been cut it will now be susceptible to absorbing moisture, since 1000’s of micro closed cells have now been opened.  Just use any spray paint over the cut foam areas to reseal the foam.

Spray Foam applicator/gun:
If the Spray Foam applicator/gun has become clogged, there is no known way of unclogging/repairing it.  This can happen when there is back pressure from a clogged nozzle or extension tube, or from allowing foam to harden on the face of the gun.  The gun cannot be taken apart and cleaned and solvents cannot be run through this type of hose/gun, since the o-rings and connection inside the gun could be destroyed.  It has essentially become inoperable and must be replaced with a new hose/gun kit to continue the use of the canister system.  If you happen to have another kit with a useable hose/gun kit, it can quickly be changed out one hose at a time, in order to avoid too much air exposure.
